After a few days of anticipation on social media Macklemore has released a new song “Glorious” featuring Skylar Grey.
With the song release Macklemore also unveiled that he will be releasing a new album, and in doing so broke the news that he is parting ways with the producer that he gained so much popularity with, Ryan Lewis.
The two are in good terms, with Macklemore citing that they mutually decided that they were both in need of some “creative space”.
It will be interesting to see what differences the next album will have without the influences of Ryan Lewis. This new song sounds similar to the general sound and pattern that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis has had in the past.
Macklemore states that Ryan Lewis will have some annoumwnts soon, and it will be cool to see what kind of projects he works on after spending nearly a decade working with Macklemore.
B.o.B first gained mainstream popularity with his hit singles Nothing on You and Airplanes. Both these songs had pop superstars featured on the track, with Bruno Mars being featured on Nothing on You, and Hayley Williams (of Paramore) on Airplanes. On his next album, “Strange Clouds” he continued this trend of collaborating with pop superstars by featuring Taylor Swift on his track Both of Us.
is back to this trend of collaborating with pop superstars, as he his a track “Big Kids” on his newly released album “Ether” features the smooth vocals of CeeLo Green and Usher.
The track is very peaceful and definitely closes the album on a good note. It brings back 2010 B.o.B nostalgia and is a good song to start the summer of 2017.
The indie rock band Grouplove has released there second single “Traumatized” off of there upcoming album “Hot Mess” coming out on September 9th.
The song starts out with a punk feel, and has more pop vibe when the chorus hits. Christian Zucchini told the Rolling Stone, “‘Traumatized’ is about becoming a parent, explores what my parents sacrificed when I was born, and shares the fear, excitement and bliss of being alive.”
The band is also starting a world tour this upcoming fall, with shows across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Martin Garrix seemed to become a superstar practically overnight when his hit track “Animals” was released in 2013. It has been a busy week for the Dutch producer, as he announced that he signed a deal with Sony Music International, and released his new song “In the Name of Love”.
This track was highly anticipated, as it was originally debuted at Ultra Music Festival in the spring. This is likely Garrix most pop influenced track to date, featuring vocals from pop star Bebe Rexha.
Given the pop influences of this track, it will be interesting to see what the 20 year olds first studio album will sound like. Will it have the hard hitting style of “Animals”? Or will have the more pop influenced style like “In the Name of Love”?
Nashville based indie-folk band Judah & The Lion have released two new singles this week, Stockholm and Take It All Back 2.0. The band also released a music video to Take It All Back 2.0, showing live footage of performances and background shots of the band.
Stockholm has a similar sound to Mumford and Sons, with a powerful chorus and a rhythmic beat.
Take It All Back 2.0 is a different adaptation of the original track, which was featured on the album Folk Hop N’ Roll, released earlier this year. The new version has a faster paced strumming on the banjo, and enhanced vocals. This is definitely seems like a song that would be incredible live.
Judah & The Lion are only gaining more popularity. Their music is fun, upbeat, and high energy. I have not attended one of their concerts yet, but it is something that is definitely on my bucket list.
New Zealand based indie electronic band The Naked and Famous have released their first single, ‘Higher’ off there upcoming album, Simple Forms. The album came together in the home studio of guitarist/vocalist/producer Thom Powers, after he broke up with fellow band member Alisa Xayalith, after nearly eight years together. Given the circumstances, the band says the upcoming album will be full of both pain and passion.
Higher is an upbeat song, and is a great jam for summer. The song also shows both the pain and passion that the band indicated would be a theme. This is a great indication of a potentially brilliant album to come by The Naked and Famous.
Nashville based rock band Cardboard Kids have released a new single, “Struggle” off their anticipated upcoming EP Mint coming out in July.
“Struggle” has a relaxed vibe, and contains smoother vocals than the band’s previously released music. “‘Struggle’ isn’t the kind of song that reveals some uplifting formula to get through struggle in order to be happy. It’s an honest song about being in the middle of some crap and dealing with it because that’s just where you are.”, said frontman Jake Germany.
“Struggle” is a great glimpse of what’s to come for the Cardboard Kids, and the single can make fans even more excited for the upcoming EP with various styles of sound now in their repertoire.
